The answer, quite frankly, is NO! Yes, they may be wanting to convey upward movement, and psychologically, that's probably a good move; the old bird seemed to be flying horizontally. The problem is that the new bird looks like a clip art graphic, which, for a major Internet brand, is probably a step in the wrong direction. Do you see what I mean? Yes, the one on the right has "upward momentum" with its more upturned angle and pointy wings, but the little tuft of hair on the old logo gave it some life!
With both logos, though, there's a clip art feel. They should have, in my opinion, done something else to distinguish the logo from generic stock art silhouettes.
The Marketing Take-away
A company's logo is often what comes to mind first when a brand is mentioned. If your logo is too generic or bland, people might have trouble recalling it. Make sure your logo is distinct and memorable!
