"Bright" Idea

When I saw this picture, it made me smile.  So often, a great idea starts with a question.  If the brilliant insight works, then you get…"dollar sign"?  There's something wrong with this flowchart...

The answer, of course, is that they've left out the very necessary step called "work."  Great ideas, no matter how fantastic, will never get off the ground without blood, sweat and tears. Even with a plan that's detailed and looks NOTHING like the one to the right, a business will have trouble taking off without work.

The Take-away
No one worth their salt in business could have made it with this kind of plan, yet most companies, from large to small, rely heavily on this model.  If we can all rely on work as heavily as we do on the spark of the idea, our business endeavors will reap profits and, hopefully, make the world a better place.

  1. So simple, but so true. I thrive off my ideas. If only I could act on one of them.

  2. You've just got to poke the box, man! Trying new things is how you find the BEST things. There's a book called, Poke the Box, by Seth Godin. It's a short read - I listened to it in 5 hours - and totally worth it!

Until we talk again, start poking the box, and let me know if I can ever help you with anything.
